Wind Symphony Concert

Join us

Friday, February 26 - 8:00 P.M.-Tritico Theatre (shearman Fine Arts Bldg)

for a truly entertaining evening of music with the McNeese Wind Symphony.  This is part of the McNeese Regional High School Honor Band weekend.  Dr. David Waybright (Director of Bands at the University of Florida) and Dr. Debra Traficante (Assistant Director of Bands at Kennesaw State University) will guest conduct works, along with Dr. Jay Jacobs.

Titled “Up, Down & All Americana,” this concert will feature very contemporary works for wind ensemble.  Works by 21st-Century composers, Jonathan Newman, Eric Whitacre and Aaron Perrine will feature titles such as: “Blow It Up, Start Again,” “Seal Lullaby,” and “Pale Blue on Deep.” Composer Mason Bates’ 2012 piece, “Mothership” will combine electronics with the wind symphony for an out-of-this-world experinece. The concert will also feature the Louisiana premier of Scott McAllister’s double concerto for clarinet and alto saxophone, “Concerto Americana.” The work, an amazingly virtuosic endeavor for the soloists, was written for clarinetist, Jackie Glazier and saxophonist, Don-Paul Kahl.  These soloists will be on campus, working with McNeese students and will then perform the concerto with Dr. David Waybright conducting.

The concert is free and open to the public.
