Band Service Awards & Scholarships

The bands at McNeese offer very substantial service awards and scholarships to participating students. Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours) and maintain a 2.5 GPA.

To be considered for any scholarship you must:

• Apply to McNeese State University

• Schedule and complete an audition

• Fill out the scholarship application linked below

Scholarships For Music Majors

For music education and music performance majors, the department of performing arts offers music-major-only scholarships.  These scholarships vary in amount.  The amount awarded is competitive and based on the student entrance audition.  

Scholarships/Awards For All Students

For students of any academic major, there are "service awards" available for participating in our major ensembles, which include: 

Marching Band

Specific amounts vary year-to-year, and semester-to-semester.  The marching band award starts at $700 and increases with each year of participation, and seniors are currently receiving $1000.  

Wind Symphony

Wind Symphony service awards are based on student entrance audition and are awarded to those who audition into the ensemble each semester. The service award starts at $400 per semester.

Symphonic Band

Symphonic Band carries a band service award for all academically-qualifying students. Students are not required to audition for symphonic band (but must do an entrance audition, which also qualifies them for the service award).

Jazz Ensemble

Jazz Ensemble carries a band service award for all academically-qualifying students. Student must audition into the ensemble. 

Marching Band Leadership/Support Staff

Leadership positions (section leaders, captains, etc.) pay an additional $250-500.
